The Results Are In!

Thank you all so much for answering my survey I posted a few days ago. I was looking for insight from my wonderful blog readers on what types of stories I write here on “Fortyteen Candles” that you all find the most interesting, entertaining and enjoyable. Without a doubt, according to the results from my survey, the most interesting stories to you all are 1. Stories about living in suburbia and my neighbors (heh heh heh….) and 2. Stories about my experiences as a nurse.

Honestly, when I started this blog I KNEW it would be a great place for me to vent my frustrations about living in a cookie cutter town full of uninteresting people who like to form cliques and one up each other materialistically or child achievementally. Thank you all for confirming my belief that this is a very entertaining subject that is best suited to scathing sarcasm with a twist of sheer joy. My neighbors continue to drive me insane, and I’ll have more stories soon as our Halloween Trick or Treating interactions have awakened my muse and gotten her to work on some urgent therapeutic writing.

Something my survey pointed out that really surprised me was your interest in my work and experiences as a nurse. Nursing is something I went into in response to a strong desire I have to help and take care of other people. This is something that is just programmed into me and I don’t see it objectively. I never think what I do is anything above and beyond what humans should do for each other every day, or would do if they were in a situation to do so, therefore I never think it would be interesting or entertaining in any way for others to read about.

The interactions I have with my patients, families and co-workers are on an emotional, philosophical, moral and spiritual level at times. I don’t know how these translate into print, but my general impression since they evoke “feelings” is that they would be dull and non action-packed. Translation = “dull” writing-wise. However, the comments I’ve received on my stories about nursing, as well as on this survey, have really opened my eyes to the value of sharing these experiences with others. It is important for others to know that in this world of increasing depersonalization there are still people out there who care, and will always care, for others in need. I have taken these comments very seriously and it has given me a lot to think about as I organize my next big writing project.

So, since it is hard for me to only focus on one project at a time, I’ve started sorting in my mind two separate writing projects….one for suburbia and the neighbors who drive me insane, and one for my experiences as a nurse. I really appreciate the time you all took to give me your feedback. Thank you, thank you, and thank you again!

Seriously…What Would Sally Field Do? I have to replay this clip, because only she can express my gratitude in a way that goes beyond mere words on the page:

Alright, I’ve been such a slacker lately. Always putting off for tomorrow what I should be doing today. I’ve been so fortunate as to have been nominated for NINE AWARDS over the past few months. I always think, “I’ll do the requirements tomorrow and spread the love to some other deserving bloggers!” But, tomorrow comes and goes, and these amazing awards sit unacknowledged. I can stand it no longer. They deserve to see the light of day.

So…this morning I made it Priority Uno to sit down at my computer and put together a list of all the thoughtful people who have nominated my blog for a bounty of amazing awards. I would like to thank you all for considering me…and YES I ACCEPT EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM!!! You are all so kind and generous. I’m one lucky blogger, for sure! Previous Post

I had to take down my previous post for privacy reasons. After being contacted by a few concerned friends, I knew this was not the right time for this post. Thank you all for your thoughts, comments, wishes, support and so on.  And if you don’t know what I’m talking about…good.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – the WordPress community offers support unlike any that I ever knew could exist in an online environment where most people are anonymous. You are all amazingly wonderful and encouraging.

Thank you.

Mom Update!

Good news! As of today, my mom has regained most of her speech and is, for the most part, back to her feisty self again. Well, she’s about 85% back to where she was. She is being discharged from the hospital tomorrow and will continue her speech, occupational and physical therapy in a long-term rehabilitation facility. It is incredible the high and lows you can find in a single week. You never know ahead of time what roller coaster life has hidden for you within a random minute on an average day.

Finally, I am overwhelmed by all the support, positive thoughts, prayers and encouragement I’ve received from the WordPress community. I can’t even begin to express how much all of your interest in the health and well-being of my mother has meant to me. Usually I like to stew alone in my thoughts, but here I am free to type away without a sentence end in sight. This experience has been very cathartic for me and I really feel like I’m not so alone in all my inner turmoil and stress anymore.

Again, thank you all so much. You are amazing souls!

* Newsflash* My Blog Now Has 100 Followers * Woo*Hoo!!

Yes it’s true. This very afternoon my blog follower count reached THE TRIPLE DIGITS.

I am so happy and excited beyond belief that so many people out there enjoy my blogging and writing. Honestly, I never would have started one if it wasn’t for the encouragement of Joyce Carol Oates. Not to me, directly.  She is very pro-blogging for new writers in general.

I really appreciate your interest and the incredibly helpful feedback on my posts. It’s a great thing knowing there is such a supportive, and growing, community of fellow writers and bloggers here on WordPress. Best of all, “meeting” so many talented people here has helped me to discover, read and enjoy the many interesting, creative, exciting, funny and original blogs that you all have created 🙂

It’s True…Lightning Does Strike Twice!

I can’t believe it has happened again. I’m very lucky and completely honored to learn today that my blog is nominated for its second award, “The Very Inspiring Blogger Award,” by none other than the amazing J. E. Lattimer of the incredible blog Thank you so much for the nomination…and yes, I TOTALLY ACCEPT THIS AWARD!! You are amazingly thoughtful and your kindness is very encouraging and inspiring to this new blogger.

But before I go any further, I do need to clear the air. Although I feel like I look exactly like the lovely and  beautiful woman in the photograph above, I must confess it is not me. It is none other than the 2012 Miss America, Laura Kaeppeler. But, if you disagree and insist that I must look as lovely – even though I really have more mascara streaming down my face and my bigger tiara is even more askew – then I will not crush your dreams. I am not a dream crusher. I am a writer, blogger and upright citizen of a random cul-de-sac in the middle of nowhere.

Now, on to the award and its requirements:

Seventy Five Followers on my Blog…WOOT!!

Yes, it’s official. I just found out this morning that I now have seventy-five people following my blog. SEVENTY FIVE!! Not too shabby for two and a half months on WordPress.

I’d like to thank you each individually for following “Fortyteen Candles.” You are all highly intelligent, incredibly good-looking, have a sharp wit and a quick sense humor. Also, you are amazingly wonderful people. And the envy of millions. Thank you all for your interest, support and enthusiasm for my little old blog from the middle of nowhereville.

Wahoo!! Twenty-Eight Amazing People Are Now Following My Blog :)

I would like to say thank you to all the people from around the world who have taken the time to read my blog, “Fortyteen Candles.” My work just a collection of my personal vents that are created by my stifled existence living as an aging Gen X-er in a self-important small town.

Please know that as soon as I receive a “like” or “follower” notification I immediately check out that person’s blog. I am so blown away by the creativity and originality of my fellow bloggers here on WordPress. You are all a real inspiration to this fledgling newbie.

Thanks, again, for your support. You’ve been so inspiring and encouraging! My goal at this time is to have even a fraction of the dedication to blogging that you all have shown.
